In an entertainment landscape full of release date shifts and delays, Netflix is still going full speed ahead. There are already so many projects to look forward to, and now, we can add another to the list. The streamer has announced that another Godzilla anime series is slated to premiere in 2021.
I will tell you right now, that there aren't many details to share, but here's what we know. Godzilla Singular Point will be the title, and you can see the new Godzilla design above. This will also be a brand new story, featuring a brand new cast. So this will not be connected to the movies that have already been released.
The new series will be directed by Atsushi Takahashi (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi). Studio bones and Studio Orange will be teaming up to bring the series to life, and will bring two different but complimentary styles. Japanese science-fiction novelist Toh Enjoe making his TV debut as editor and writer for the series, Kazue Kato (Blue Exorcist, Jump Square) will serve as the character designer and animator Eiji Yamamori from Studio Ghibli will design the Kaiju.
No synopsis or plot details were provided with the announcement. Netflix has certainly upped it's presence in the anime world, and have not been shy about adapting licensed properties into the medium. It's hard to go wrong with a Godzilla story in anime, but the story will obviously be the key. Keep checking back for more details and a confirmed release date.
