‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Moves To 2022

This seems like the "new normal" in Hollywood right now. It seems like every movie scheduled to be released this year has been moved to a later date. Let's face it, 2021 could be a very crowded year for movies, if we're lucky enough to have them. That laundry list just decreased by one after this announcement from Universal Pictures.

Jurassic World: Dominion will now take a bite out of the box office on June 10, 2022. While that seems like an eternity from now, honestly, what's the alternative? In truth, we have no idea what the movie theater landscape will look like in 2021. We don't even know if there will BE any movie theaters in 2021. That seems crazy to say, but things aren't looking great right now for some of the biggest theater chains in the U.S. So Universal did the only thing it could really do with a blockbuster like this...play the waiting game.

This isn't just some random Jurassic World movie. It is the long awaited return of some of the cast member from the original trilogy. It also serves as the third installment of it's own story. We don't know yet if this will be the final installment. Star Chris Pratt took to Instagram to share his thoughts with the fans, and he seems very excited about the film's eventual release.

So we'll have to wait an extra year, that just gives them plenty of time for post production. They are expected to wrap their U.K. production sometime in the next few weeks. That is, of course, barring any possible COVID-19 related delays. Even if there were some positive tests, having a date that far in the future keeps them from having to shift things again. Here's hoping that life finds a way, and we'll be back in theaters soon.
