Boom! Studios Enters New First Look Deal With Netflix

I believe it was back in 2017 that Boom! Studios signed a first look deal with 20th Century Fox to adapt their stories to the big screen. There have certainly been some bumps in the road of that relationship, especially after Disney acquired the film studio. The one thing that seemed to go unnoticed is, that deal did not include TV adaptations. Now it looks like those rights have been snatched up by someone else.

Netflix has entered a first look deal with Boom! Studios to produce original series for the streamer. This partnership isn’t too much of a surprise, as Boom already had a comic book tied to The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. They also have a movie adaptation of The Unsound coming up as well.

“BOOM! characters are innately special, they’re colorful, diverse and varied and their stories have the power to ignite something in all of us,” said Brian Wright, Vice President, Original Series at Netflix. “We can’t wait to bring these stories from the page to the screen to fans in every corner of the world.”

No specific series were mentioned in the announcement, but this does appear to include both live action and animated adaptations. There are certainly no shortage of properties to choose from. I have to wonder if there is any chance this could somehow revive the fallen Mouse Guard movie that was cancelled. The list isn’t infinite though. According to the press release,BOOM! has close to 20 movies and TV shows in development currently. Some of those span across multiple studios.

That begs the question. Which Boom! Studios story would you like to see adapted by Netflix first?
