I spent a large part of my youth watching Jean-Claude Van Damme high kicking bad guys in the face. From Bloodsport to Time Cop and beyond, I was in. So I was very excited that Netflix was bringing back Van Damme in style. Check out this clip from The Last Mercenary presented during Comic-Con@Home.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it was in French. Don’t worry, there will be English subtitles available. Visually, this is what I signed up for. Van Damme taking on a bunch of soldiers is something that I didn’t realize how much I missed. The film comes from director David Charhon, who wrote the script with Ismaël Sy Savané. Joining JCVD in the cast are Alban Ivanov, Assa Sylla, Samir Decazza, Patrick Timsit, Eric Judor and Miou-Miou.
The story follows, “A mysterious former secret service agent must urgently return to France when his estranged son is falsely accused of arms and drug trafficking by the government, following a blunder by an overzealous bureaucrat and a mafia operation.”
