Any time Marvel Studios drops a first trailer for a movie, there is massive hype. Second trailers are cool too, but tend to make a bit less of an impact. That was certainly not the case after the second trailer dropped for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Yes, that was Abomination that you saw. That’s surprising for a lot of reasons. First, we haven’t seen that character since the Ed Norton led The Incredible Hulk. Second, it felt like that time and those characters had been long forgotten in the MCU timeline. Finally, and most notably, it’s just completely random. That’s what made it so surprising. No matter the explanation, I’m all for it.
We also saw Benedict Wong’s Doctor Strange character Wong quickly in the trailer. Another instance where there isn’t really a direct Shang-Chi connection, which again makes it interesting. Add that to the stunning visuals and eye catching action sequences, I’d say the interest in this film is building exponentially.
You’ve already seen the full synopsis for the film. Director Destin Daniel Cretton added to that recently, saying: “Shang-Chi’s main problem in his life is rooted in not knowing who he really is. He has to learn how to own every part of himself. If he doesn’t allow himself to look at all of it—the good, the bad, the light and the dark—and to own it all, he won’t be able to reach his full potential.”
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be in theaters on September 3, 2021. Keep checking back for updates and our review.
