Years ago when the podcast first started, one of the first books that I reviewed was Superior Spider-Man from Marvel. I found out very quickly that fans either loved it or they hated it. For me, I loved the balance of the brash and arrogant Otto Octavius trying to also make the world think he was really Peter Parker. The story was good, there was a relationship drama added in and it made Peter’s eventual return actually mean something.
Now the title will be returning this December with a new creative team! With Dan Slott no longer at the helm, Christos Gage (Spider-Geddon) will write this new ongoing series with art by Mike Hawthorne (Deadpool). According to a press release from Marvel, here’s what we can expect:
Otto will prove (one way or the other) that he’s the most effective Super Hero in the world! And if you think you’ve already read the most intense Superior Spider-Man story? Think again. This is a tale like none other!
Gage also had this to say about this new chapter in the Superior story:
“I had the great pleasure of collaborating with Dan Slott on his incredible Superior Spider-Man run, and I can’t wait for people to see this new chapter in Otto’s journey toward… redemption? Corruption? Triumph? Tragedy? That remains to be seen.”
Even though it will be different this time around, it will still be nice to have this story back again. Since they likely won’t be able to use the same angle that they did when the story was originally released, it will be interesting to see how and why Otto is back. It will also be interesting to see if fans have the same anger towards the book they they did before. Seems like as long as they have a Peter Parker book to go to, things will be fine.
Superior Spider-Man #1 will be available on December 26th at your local comic book shops and digital retailers.
