It’s hard to believe that the first trailer for the Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius, came out in 2020. Like many other films, pandemic related delays have pushed the Jared Leto project more and more into the future. So, what’s a few more months?
Here’s a brand new trailer, and it really ups it’s game from the last one:
In case you’re unaware, Morbius is the story of a man: “Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and Morbius’ good must override evil to conquer – or succumb to – his dark new urges.”
I despise the term “anti-hero”, but it looks like that is where this movie is headed. It’s hard to let villains be villains when your list of opposing heroes is limited. Still, this movie has a chance if it leans into the personal aspect of the story and it’s characters. The concern is focusing too much on name drops and Easter eggs.
Leto stars as the mysterious Dr. Morbius. He will be joined by Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson. Daniel Espinosa directs the story, based on the Marvel Comics story from Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Something tells me it will be quite loosely based on said story, but fans who are not hardcore comics fans wouldn’t notice. That’s why trailer is key, and that’s probably a good thing.
If you were hoping for an at-home, prepare for disappointment. Morbius will release January 28, 2022, exclusively in theaters from Columbia Pictures. Keep checking back for our continuing coverage.I
