For anyone who has said over the years that Michael Keaton was the best Batman, buckle up. The Wrap was the first to report that Keaton would reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Ezra Miller led The Flash movie. This was later corroborated by THR from a separate source.
The Flash would center around Flashpoint, and apparently, see Keaton replace Ben Affleck’s Batman in future DC films. He would also be a “Nick Fury-like” character, appearing in several other movies. Think of him as the straw that stirs the drink, if you will.
As we learned in the Crisis On Infinite Earths Arrowverse crossover, the DC movie universe is canon, and so are Keaton’s Batman movies. Technically the multiverse died in the crossover, but appeared to be in the process of secretly bring rebuilt. We know that a Flashpoint event would send ripples through DC, but it’s too early to tell whether or not this would also reach into the TV realm. Doubtful, but you never know. No matter what, this doesn’t appear to affect Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which is still seen as it’s own entity.
Michael Keaton has not played Batman since 1992. He did, as you remember, play Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Keaton is 68 years old, so any action scenes would obviously require some serious stunt work. Give us the white eyes on the cowl of the Batsuit that we have wanted for years and that shouldn’t be a problem. Remember, these are still negotiations and nothing about this is a sure thing.
I will go into more detail on Episode 322 of our podcast this week.
