It seems like there have been rumblings about a Lumberjanes animated series for a while now. Well, rumble no more. The Eisner Award winning series from Boom! Studios will now be getting an animated series adaptation on HBO Max. It has been given a script-to-series order and will debut with an hour-long special.
Noelle Stevenson, who is one of the co-creators of Lumberjanes, will write and direct the debut special and will serve as executive producer for the series. Fellow Lumberjanes co-creators Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Brooklyn Allen will also serve as co-executive producers. Ross Richie and Stephen Christy will Executive Produce the series for BOOM! Studios. Stevenson recently served as showrunner for the very successful She-Ra And The Princesses of Power from Netflix.
If you're not familiar with Lumberjanes, Boom! Studios says that the story, "follows five friends-- April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley—during their first summer at Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thilstle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. These new cabinmates soon discover that there’s more to this camp than earning badges, and that their camp director is harboring a secret that is the key to answering a mystery as old as the camp itself. Throughout their summer these hardcore lady types will have to overcome obstacles involving supernatural creatures and cabin rivalries, proving that some campfire stories are real and also learning the true meaning of friendship."
There is currently no release date for the debut special or the series itself. Keep checking back for first look photos, casting news and trailers when they are released.
