When you order delivery, it’s probably a pretty smooth ride for the driver. Now imagine that you live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. How do you think that would go? Well, if you’re a Twisted Metal fan, you probably have a pretty good idea. After 25 years, the popular video game franchise is getting a live action adaptation.

Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television will all team up to bring Twisted Metal to Peacock. It also comes with series star power, with Anthony Mackie set to star and serve as executive producer. Will Arnett will also serve as executive producer, along with his Electric Avenue cohort Marc Forman. You can so add Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland), Jason Spire (Inspire Entertainment), Peter Principato (Artists First), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions and Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios. Rounding out the team is Cobra Kai‘s Michael Jonathan Smith, who will be the showrunner.

If you’re not familiar with Twisted Metal, it is “about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”

Twisted Metal has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation, led by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, that blew us away. Also Anthony Mackie starring made it undeniable!” said Lisa Katz, president scripted content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “This adrenalin-infused comedy series is in expert hands with our partners at Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition to Peacock as we continue to look for uniquely entertaining programs.”

There is no word on a production start date or episode count yet for this half hour comedy series. There will be plenty more updates to come. Until then, make sure what else you should be watching at www.peacocktv.com/.
