Remember when we were told that several Game of Thrones prequel series were in the works? We have only had one confirmed, but another might not be far behind. Deadline is reporting that another series, based on the House of Targaryen, will be coming to HBO.
According to the report, this prequel would be set 300 years before the events of the most recent series. So more like the Great, Great Grandmother of Dragons then? It would also show the beginning of the end of said House, but is this a true prequel?
George R.R. Martin would executive produce alongside Ryan Condal (Colony). The report says that the show could be based on the Fire & Blood book, but also provide a unique take on the story. Most Game of Thrones fans would likely argue that the final season of the original series was a unique take as well. So does that mean there would be a little hesitation for fans to accept a prequel series that did the same?
Prequels are somewhat uncharted territory anyway, so I think there is a different standard to hold this to. That is, if this series is happening at all. HBO has declined to comment, and things seem to still be a bit mysterious. Question is: do you hope it’s true?
