WarnerMedia Announces Multi-year Deal With J.J. Abrams

The rumored deal between J.J. Abrams and WarnerMedia is now a reality. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the new five year deal that covers movie, TV, games and digital. This brings all aspects of Bad Robot under the same brand for the first time.

I should also point out that Abrams’ wife and co-CEO Katie McGrath is part of this new deal as well. There are varying reports on the dollar amounts, but it appears to be in the low to mid nine figure range. It’s also unclear if Warner gets an ownership stake in Bad Robot in this deal. While the focus seems to be on originals, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Abrams tackle some of Warner’s many other properties as well.

This deal comes at a great time, with the announcement about the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service sure to come soon. I suspect that Abrams will be a big part of that launch and creating content for the service. Really there are endless possibilities, including writing for DC Comics at some point.

Whether you are a J.J. Abrams fan or not, there is no doubt that he has had a lot of hits on screens big and small. Quite frankly, this deal also keeps Abrams away from Warner’s competitors. It will be interesting to see what the first project will be.

What do you think of this new deal.
