The streaming wars are really heating up. With HBO Max set to launch in the Spring of 2020, they have just added a major title to their catalogue. Variety reports that HBO Max has acquired exclusive streaming rights to Doctor Who. Episodes will still air first on the BBC and BBC America, but will only be available to stream on HBO Max. The deal includes all 11 seasons of the modern series, as well as future episodes.
The deal also includes other BBC shows like “The Office”, “Luther”, “Top Gear” and “The Honorable Woman”. Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max said in a statement, “Doctor Who is one of television’s all-time, most beloved series, on both sides of the pond, and we are happy to be the exclusive streaming stewards for this BBC gem.”
While this is a big get for HBO Max, there will still be stiff competition from Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and others. Does this Doctor Who news make you more likely to subscribe or will you wait to see the price first?
