Who doesn’t love a great story? That doesn’t always have to mean something that runs for several seasons. Anthology series are becoming popular again, and there is one in particular that we’ve been waiting to hear about for a while. Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is an eight episode live action series that is being described as “genre defining”. Not only is del Toro serving as executive producer and co-showrunner, he has assembled a team of writers and directors to help bring each story to life. Before we get into that, let’s take a look at the teaser that was released by Netflix today during Geeked Week.
As you can see, that’s quite the list of directors and some very talented actors. You saw some of them in the video. They include Andrew Lincoln, Ben Barnes, F. Murray Abraham, Essie Davis, Eric André, Sofia Boutella, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Rupert Grint, Kate Micucci, Charlyne Yi and many more. They will be paired with directors like Catherine Hardwicke, David Prior, Jennifer Kent, Guillermo Navarro and others.
The teaser gives us a look at a wide range of settings and themes. Presenting this as an anthology is very exciting, because it opens the world of possibilities in a way that we don’t usually see in the horror genre. Plus, in theory, there would be something for everyone. So, even though Guillermo del Toro won’t be directing any of these himself, he wouldn’t put his name on a project that he didn’t believe in. So, I’m sold based on that.
We don’t have a firm release date for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities just yet. Keep checking back for more updates, and a more official synopsis of each of these episodes.
