FIRST LOOK: ‘Star Wars: Darth Vader #1’ From Marvel Comics

If I'm being completely honest, Darth Vader is a book that Marvel never should have stopped in the first place.  What Kieron Gillen was doing with the original run in 2015 was pure gold.  There was another run in 2017 which was also good with Charles Soule.  Now Marvel is taking a different approach with this new #1, and they have another superstar writer at the helm.

This time, Greg Pak is at the helm for Darth Vader #1 and it seems like there will be plenty of Anakin vibes this time around.  StarWars.com released an exteneded preview of the book, showing off some of the great art from Raffaele Ienco and an equally impressive cover from InHyuk Lee. You can also see the variant cover from Mike Del Mundo, which might give us the best insight into the story itself.

According to the synopsis, the series picks up in the aftermath of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back as a new mission for the fallen Jedi unfolds. In this brand-new story, Darth Vader will have to confront his tragic past as he digs for information on his son, Luke Skywalker!  You can also see, if you look at the art preview on the Star Wars website, that Vader visits a very familiar location looking for answers.  It's actually feels like a nice addition to a story that we have seen on the screen.

Pak has written several Star Wars books for Marvel already, so Vader is certainly in good hands.  We will  all find out together when Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 hits your local comic book shops and digital retailers on February 5, 2020.
