When Javicia Leslie took over the mantle of Batwoman, we knew that there would be some upgrades. Today, The CW and Warner Bros. Television revealed an official first look at the new design. You can see one of the images above, but how about another?
The suit was designed by Maya Mani and Ocean Drive Leather. You can see that there is a new wig as well. That was designed by Janice Workman with makeup from Cory Roberts. Normally that’s not something that I would bring up, but let’s give credit where credit is due. While it isn’t a complete redesign, there are some obvious differences.
The red gauntlets really stand out, and the boots are shorter. The biggest difference, as many “fans” were quick to point out, is that red curly hair. The top to bottom design of the suit just looks more sleek, solid and worth of a member of the Bat Family. Keep in mind, Ryan Wilder will still wear Kate Kane’s suit in the first couple of episodes.
Talking about the new look suit, Mani said, “I was asked by Caroline Dries to design a Batsuit that was unique to the character of Ryan Wilder; as she is a highly skilled fighter, encapsulating her raw, athletic, and passionate nature was imperative. As Batwoman, Javicia Leslie not only brings a fresh perspective, but physical strength to the role. It was important for the new suit to define Javicia’s commanding presence while showcasing her athleticism and allowing her the freedom to express the physical nature of Batwoman, all while looking ultra-cool in the process!”
