It's been almost two years since Disney released the first trailer for Artemis Fowl. Since then, it's been quite the waiting game. As a matter of fact, it's been a while since we had heard anything about the project. Some fans were starting the worry the movie was going to be delayed again or scrapped all together. Those fears were put to rest over the weekend with a new poster and a new trailer.
Criminal mastermind or secret savior? I guess we will find out soon enough. Of course, if you've read the book by Eoin Colfer, you might already know the answer to that. Either way, you can see the amount of gadgets and mystical creatures that this movie will be dealing with. You can also see that Artemis is not alone in this search for his father.
According to the synopsis from Disney: "a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared. With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies."
Ferdia Shaw plays the young Artemis, with Colin Farrell playing the elder Artemis. You'll also see Josh Gad as Mulch Diggums, Judi Dench as Commander Root, Nonso Anozie as Butler, Miranda Raison as Angeline and Lara McDonnell as Captain Holly Short. The adaptation was directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Disney's Artemis Fowl will be in theaters May 29, 2020.
