Billed as a first-of-it's-kind digital service, we now know that DC Universe will in fact be launching this August. New details were release today about, what looks to be, a massive launch of a jam packed new service. According to the press release, here is everything you will get with your membership:
- WATCH exclusive originals and classic favorites;
- READ from an extensive list of curated comic books;
- CONNECT with the DC community;
- EXPLORE the latest breaking news and the ever-expanding DC encyclopedia;
- WIN premium rewards and participate in sweepstakes and contests;
- SHOP for exclusive merchandise.
The list of catalogue titles for the service is actually quite impressive. Some of DC's animated original movies like the recent Gotham by Gaslight, as well as older titles like All Star Superman will be available. Speaking of Superman, all of the Christopher Reeve movies will be available as well! On the TV side, you can relive the Lynda Carter's original Wonder Woman series, and the big news, Batman: The Animated Series! Some short run series, both animated and live action, will be available as well like Static Shock, Birds of Prey and Matt Ryan's Constantine. Here is a sizzle reel that can give you more info on the service:
At launch alone, this is quite an impressive list of content. This really is the first streaming service to incorporate all elements of comic book culture into one service. We haven't even talked about the original programming yet. We have seen first looks released from Titans of various characters, but this may be the most impressive yet. This first look at Robin in full costume is amazing:
We also got another look at the team from Young Justice: Outsiders again:
More information on the Harley Quinn animated series, Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing series should start to come together soon, as production begins. You can sign up to be a beta tester for the service today by visiting www.dcuniverse.com
