“I like that, Johnny! I’m gonna use that!” Just one of the memorable lines from Karate Kid III from Terry Silver. Spoiler alert, last season we met a young Terry Silver in a flashback. This season, we’ll get to meet, who I’m calling, “old man Silver.”
Netflix released a teaser, confirming the return of not just the character, but of Thomas Ian Griffith to the role. See it in all of it’s quote filled goodness:
Honestly, you could have shown me the trademark ponytail and that would have been enough. Cobra Kai has done a great job at bringing in characters from the original movies. It also feels like they have been building toward this ever since the return of John Kreese (Martin Kove) to the series.
In a statement provided by Netflix, writers and executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg confirmed as much. “Since the beginning of the series, we’ve been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe. That moment is now. We can’t wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith’s majestic return to the franchise,” they said.
This still begs the question of if and when we will see Mike Barnes, who you’ll remember was brought in my Kreese and Silver to push Daniel (Ralph Macchio) over the edge. While Silver has a much more important meaning to the series, bringing Barnes in for an episode or two, similar to what they did with Chozen, could be impactful. Plus, Daniel does reference Barnes in Season 3 when he is talking to his daughter Samantha (Mary Mouser).
Honestly, whatever the plan is, I have faith in it. Everyone behind Cobra Kai has done such a great job from the beginning, how could you not? Plus, what happens when Johnny (William Zabka) meets Silver for the first time? I can’t wait for that.
Season 4 of Cobra Kai premieres soon on Netflix. Don’t forget to catch up and re-watch the series at www.netflix.com/CobraKai. We will have more updates as they happen.
