There will be another season of Carnival Row on Amazon Prime Video, but big changes are happening behind the scenes. Deadline is reporting that the series will have a new showrunner and one of the show’s co-creators has exited. Let’s take this one at a time.
Marc Guggenheim is out as showrunner, replaced by Erik Oleson (Marvel’s Daredevil). Guggenheim will remain a consultant, but is just a bit too busy with the Arrowverse and other upcoming projects. Naming a new showrunner who can focus more on the day to day of the show just seems to make logical sense. Plus, bringing someone like Oleson into the fold can only help.
The more troubling news is that Travis Beacham, one of the co-creators of Carnival Row, will also exit. You guessed it, “creative differences” were cited at the reason. I know that the series was based on a script written by Beacham in 2005, but that doesn’t mean it can’t live on without him. Deadline says Amazon declined to comment, so I’m not sure what the differences were or with who.
Keep in mind, such a change isn’t automatically a bad thing. Series star Orlando Bloom will also executive produce with fellow star Cara Delevingne will add these duties this upcoming season as well. No release date has been given for Season 2. For more information on Carnival Row, see our endless number of articles, interviews and videos about the show.
