Have you noticed the love fest for Brendan Fraser lately? I certainly didn't need a reminder of how great he is, I've always known. This isn't just because of his iconic roles in the past, or the fact that he's killing it as Cliff on Doom Patrol. Every time you hear a story about someone who has worked with him, you find out more and more how much of a great guy he really is. It looks like he'll be joining another major DC franchise soon on HBO Max.
Deadline reports that Fraser will play the main villain in the upcoming Batgirl movie. Ever since news broke of the casting of Leslie Grace, rumors have been swirling about who would join her in the upcoming live action movie. This report suggests that he will play Firefly, opposite Grace's Batgirl. The character was recently played in live action on the Gotham series, portrayed by Michelle Veintimilla. If I were to venture a guess, Fraser could play the Ted Carson version of the character. That character faced off against both Batgirl and Nightwing in the comics during The New 25 era.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct Batgirl, with Kristina Burr producing and the script from Christina Hodson. Other than Jacob Scipio joining the cast, and J.K. Simmons reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon, we know very little about the remaining cast and plot. I was hoping that we would hear something at DC FanDome, but it could be way too early in the process.
I'm sure we'll find out more once filming begins. If any more casting confirmations come in, you'll find them here.
