Have you ever woken up from a nap, a deep sleep or just plain being passed out and not know where you are? Now, imagine that happens and you're on the outskirts of one of the strangest places you've ever seen. Boom! Studios dials up the weird this March with King of Nowhere.
The five issue miniseries will be written by W. Maxwell Prince (Ice Cream Man), artist Tyler Jenkins (Grass Kings), colorist Hilary Jenkins (Black Badge), and letters by AndWorld Design (Martian Manhunter). As far as the synopsis goes: "Drunken lowlife Denis awakens on the outskirts of a mysterious village called Nowhere, home to a friendly populace of deformed, mutated, just-left-of-normal citizens-and he has no memory of how he got there. But just when Denis starts to regain his memories, his past catches up to him… literally. What at first seems like merely a bad trip quickly heightens into a drama of mistaken identities, small-town conspiracy, and high-stakes fantasy fulfillment."
It's clear that when you want to dial up the weird, you call Tyler Jenkins. We've seen how he can make the strange that much more eye catching with his art. If the cover doesn't tell that story for you, how about this?
So, now you get to see a small example of the kind of characters that will be a part of this strange place called Nowhere. While the look is important, and you can see how the art can give you this hazy, left-of-center vibe, we have certainly seen similar themes of characters. That is why the way that they are presented, and the attitude of the characters themselves will be so important. It also seems like the main character won't be the most likeable guy, so the how and the why will be a huge part of what makes the story captivating.
I am excited to see where King of Nowhere is going to go. Issue 1 will be available on March 4, 2020 from Boom! Studios.
