It seems to me that there just aren’t enough Viking stories out there. We have our fill of zombies, aliens, but Vikings seems under done (aside from a very successful TV series.) Ubisoft is giving us Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla hopefully before the end of the year, that helps. Today it was announced that we will be getting a prequel to the game, as well.
Dark Horse Comics will publish Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory, which will serve as a three issue prequel to the game. It will be written by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Martin Tunica, and colored by Michael Atiyeh (The Orville, Dragon Age: Blue Wraith). Scott worked on the comics for the popular Vikings TV series, so he seems like a perfect fit here.
The story goes back to mid-9th century Norway. Looking at the story itself, “Eivor, a Viking warrior, observes a village raided by a neighboring kingdom. Bloodshed and mayhem erupt as she seizes the attack in her own favor—but will her victory be a blessing to her clan or a terrible curse? Elsewhere, another Viking searches for a different kind of prize, one of crucible steel . . .”
I was excited for the game already, and this certainly adds to that. Dark Horse will also publish The Art of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and The Art of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Deluxe Edition later this year, near the release of the game. The prequel comic, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory #1 will be available on October 21, 2020 at your local comic book shops and digital retailers.
