Woody Harrelson Returns For ‘Venom 2’; Will Tom Holland Join Him?

I've said it a few times now, but I'll say it again for the context of the story.  I liked the first Venom movie.  It was far from perfect, but Tom Hardy was great, the visuals looked good and there was a good balance between humor and intensity that I enjoyed.  So I was already on board for the Venom sequel.  We did get one piece of good news about the sequel that I'll share with you, then I'll try to convince you of a potentially crazy theory.

In an interview with Collider, cinematographer Robert Richardson confirmed that Woody Harrelson would be returning for Venom 2 to reprise his role as Cletus Kasady (AKA Carnage).  So just in case you were wondering about that, you can put those fears to rest.  So yes, it appears that we will still be getting Carnage in Venom 2.  Remember, we also have Andy Serkis on board to direct.  Now it's time to get greedy and take this a step further.

One thing that's getting lost in all of thise Spider-Man, Disney/Sony drama is that...what if Tom Holland ends up playing a role in Venom 2 as well?  Before you stop reading, or start typing out that comment about how much of an idiot I am, hear me out.  I'm not saying Holland would play a BIG role in this upcoming sequel.  It does seem anti-climactic to see Spider-Man return to this Sony universe in a sequel for another character.  I realized that he first appeared in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, but that's a whole different ballgame.  So here's a potential scenario where I see Spidey swinging into the mix.

What led Spider-Man and Venom to team up in the first place?  It was Carnage.  For the greater good, the two characters joined forces to take down this vicious and seemingly unstoppable foe.  There is a way to work that into these movies as well, just in a different way.  What if Venom can't defeat Carnage?  What if the death and destruction just starts to take over and overwhelm, not just Venom, but the entire population?  Seems like a good opportunity for Spider-Man to offer his assistance.  So how does this work after the end of Far From Home?

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen Spider-Man: Far From Home but Peter has been outed as Spider-Man by Mysterio and seems like he's public enemy #1.  Heroes tend to let their actions speak louder than their words, so coming in to stop a psychopath like Carnage would go a long way to repairing Spider-Man's image.  Whether the public thinks he's guilty or not, saving them from a force like Carnage goes a long way toward forgiveness.

I'm not saying this is going to happen, I'm not even saying that it would work perfectly.  What I'm saying is, let Carnage win the battle in Venom 2.  Let THAT be your cliffhanger, with Spider-Man being your mid-credit or end-credit stinger for an upcoming team-up movie or Spider-Man movie under to Sony umbrella.

There are plenty of considerations to be made here, but Sony didn't just take back those Spider-Man rights for nothing.  They have a plan, and you have to think it's on a grand scale.  Whether you trust them to make a good Spider-Man movie or not, you have to think that these worlds will collide at some point.  The only question that remains now is whether that will be sooner or later?
