I think that I can speak for most fans when I say that the wait for Wonder Woman 1984 feels excruciating. Safety first, of course, but it seems like forever since we have seen Gal Gadot on screen with an amazing vision from Patty Jenkins. According to a recent interview, that vision could be expanding a bit in the future.
Patty Jenkins spoke to Empire recently about the October release of Wonder Woman 1984, and the conversation shifted to talk about the Amazon Olympics that take place on Themyscira. What was almost lost in the conversation was a mention of a possible animated series centered around those very Amazons that would be set in the same world as the films. There had been talk about a live action Amazons spinoff before, but this is the first mention of anything on the animation side.
I don't know about you, but I'm all for a spinoff centered around the Amazons of Themyscira, no matter what form it might be in. This wouldn't be the first mention of the DCEU making it's way into the animated landscape. It was announced that an animated Aquaman miniseries would be coming to HBO Max from James Wan. While Jenkins would likely not direct any animated projects, one would think that she would have some involvement, if it is set in the world of the films that she helped create.
I have to point out that, at this moment, this is just a blurb in an interview about a highly anticipated sequel. Still, I don't think Patty Jenkins would bring it up unless there were serious discussions going on. This isn't some random hunch from an unnamed source, this is coming right from Patty Jenkins herself. She also has a great admiration for the Amazons, not just Wonder Woman. If anyone would be able to sell this project, it's Patty Jenkins.
More on this as it develops.
