We are very fortunate to have so many great stories in the world of comics over the years. I’m sure you have quite the reading list, but how many of those are from outside of the U.S.? No judgement here, you might not even think about that. At the same time, you never know what you might be missing. Luckily, Netflix is paying close attention. The streamer announced that they are adapting the Philippine graphic novel, Trese, as an animated series.
From creators Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo, Trese tells the story: “
Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings.”
Jay Oliva (Justice League Dark) will direct and serve as showrunner. Lex + Otis are handling the animation. The series was written by Tanya Yuson, Zig Marasigan and Mihk Vergara.
In case you are wondering, yes there will be both an English language and Philippine version of the series. That means two completely different casts. Here they are:
