"What the hell is a Gigawatt!?" Marty McFly said those words decades ago, and we're about to get a very different answer. That answer will bring together two of the most iconic fandoms of the 80s in a new comic book crossover.
IDW Publishing has announced a Transformers/Back To The Future comic book crossover event. The story will be written by Cavan Scott (Star Wars Adventures) with art by Juan Samu (Marvel Action: Black Panther). The event will introduce the new character from Hasbro and NBCUniversal, Gigawatt. Take a look at the cover and see for yourself.
Here's the synosis, at least for the first issue: "Marty McFly returns from the adventure of a lifetime to a new, better Hill Valley… that is, until Marty and his friend Doc Brown's time machine attracts the attention of the Decepticons. With one small mistake, Marty finds himself once again thrust into action to unravel a Decepticon plot in the past, present, and future... now with the help of a new converting time machine, the Autobot called Gigawatt!"
"When I was asked to write the official crossover comic, I could only shout ‘Great Scott’ and dive in," says writer Cavan Scott. "It’s the perfect fit. Both Transformers and Back to the Future are packed with adventure, humor, and (most importantly) heart. Plus, it gave me a chance to play with multiple Transformers timelines, harkening back to some of my favorite Transformers storylines of the ‘80s, while also bringing in elements of all three Back to the Future movies. Look out for classic characters, both human and Cybertronian, and a few surprises along the way!"
I was in the second I saw those two names next to each other. This has the opportunity to be a very fun crossover. We'll find out even more at the "The Science of Back to the Future" panel today (Thursday) at Comic-Con@Home with the creative team at 3pm PT. Comic book creators and scientists getting together, how great is that?
The first issue in the four issue series will be released this October. You know our review will be featured on a future podcast, so keep checking back.
