Ever since Jodie Whittaker was announced at the 13th Doctor, the excitement level has been off the charts. I really got a chance to see it with my own eyes at San Diego Comic-Con this year. If there is this much hype in the U.S., I can only imagine what it's like in the UK. As that excitement continues to grow, Titan Comics has announced details of their comic book story for the new Doctor.
Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #1 will release this Fall, but no specific date was given. The series will be written by Eisner nominated Jody Houser, with art by Rachael Stott and colors by Enrica Angiolini. Houser has been a part of the very popular Faith series from Valiant, and will also helm the new Stranger Things ongoing for Dark Horse. Stott is no stranger to the Doctor Who comics, having worked on the book off and on since 2015. If that amazing, all female creative team wasn't enough, there will be some great variant covers as well. You can see the Babs Tarr cover at the top of this story, with more variants from Sarah Graley (Rick and Morty), Katie Cook (Adventure Time), Ariela Kristantina (Mata Hari), and Paulina Ganucheau. Then, of course, you have to have a Photo variant of the Doctor herself!
In the press release sent out by Titan Comics, Houser had this to say: "Anyone can have an adventure. No matter how old you are, there are still amazing things to discover in the universe. Exploring what makes our new Doctor tick, and what makes this regeneration unique as compared to the previous incarnations, is what I’m really looking forward to doing in the new series." Based on that, it looks like this series may be an even more important companion to the TV series itself, really offering an inside look at what makes this new Doctor so unique. It also appears that the book will offer new stories as well, which is no surprise, given that previous Doctor Who books have done the same.
The press release went on to give even more details on the upcoming celebration of this historic Doctor Who event. Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #1 is part of Titan Comics' larger plans for the Thirteenth Doctor in 2018, including; Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Vol. 0 – which sees the Doctor relive memories from her many incarnations, showcasing unseen adventures from EVERY version of the Doctor!; and Doctor Who Comics Day on November 24 – where fans and stores unite to celebrate everything Doctor Who!
Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #1 hits stores and digital devices in the Fall. Retailers and fans can order this hotly anticipated debut issue from the August edition of Diamond Previews catalogue.
BBC AMERICA is the home of Doctor Who in the U.S. and will be premiering the upcoming season this Fall.
