It’s a big day if you’re a fan of The Sandman. The live action series that man fans thought was just a dream, is about to become a reality. The update that we’ve been waiting for is finally here. Netflix revealed during Geeked Week that The Sandman will steam all ten episodes globally on August 5th of this year.
Here is the official teaser:
It looks every bit as good as I hoped that it would. We also get a look at Johanna Constantine in the teaser. She also got her own character poster. The big casting news today was that Mark Hamill would be joining the cast as the voice of Merv Pumpkinhead. That should bring Sandman fans so much joy, and it adds another DC/Vertigo character to Hamill’s arsenal.
The cast also includes Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vanesu Samunyai (formerly known as “Kyo Ra”), John Cameron Mitchell, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Joely Richardson, Niamh Walsh, Sandra James Young and Razane Jammal. Allan Heinberg will serve as showrunner and executive producer. He will also write the series alongside The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer..
How closely will this resemble the story we see in the comics? That remains to be seen. Even the official logline is pretty vague: “When the Sandman, aka Dream (Tom Sturridge) — the powerful cosmic being who controls all our dreams — is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.”
