Don't look now, but fans of The Magicians are getting some good news even before the Season 4 premiere (this Wednesday, January 23rd at 9pm ET.) Syfy has given the show an early Season 5 renewal, in what has been a growing trend for networks who have high confidence in certain shows. That was not the only announcement made today, though! In an earlier report from TVLine, we learned that Henry Alonso Myers (who has been with the show since Season 1), has been promoted to co-showrunner along with John McNamara and Sera Gamble.
The Magicians has always been a favorite of ours. I have personally said that I believe The Magicians was the catalyst for many of the shows that we are seeing on Syfy now. The Magicians changed the game and the narrative of the network, breathing new life into them while they were searching for a new identity.
