‘The Blacklist’ To Air A Live Action-Animation Hybrid Episode For Season 7 Finale

So, as it turns out, I’m not crazy after all. A couple of weeks ago, you might remember me floating the idea of the Arrowverse series using animation to finish their seasons after the coronavirus pandemic shut down production. The question was, “can it be done?” As it turns out, another show will be doing something very similar.

AP News was first to report that NBC’s The Blacklist would use “graphic novel style animation” to help complete it’s Season 7 finale. Episode 19, titled “The Kazanjian Brothers,” was nearly halfway finished filming when production ceased. Working remotely, the cast members were able to record their new lines from home to blend with the animation. This is a tremendous display of determination and goodwill to the fans of the long running series by everyone involved.

NBC and Sony Pictures Television have also released a synopsis for the episode: “The Task Force investigates an accountant who works for lucrative criminals in order to find the violent and thuggish brothers hired for his protection. Liz must make a momentous decision. Presented in a unique hybrid of live-action and graphic novel-style animation. Guest starring: Brian Dennehy, Laila Robins”

I mean, you had me at Brian Dennehy, but the rest looks cool too. Catch this episode on Friday, May 15th at 8pm on NBC.
