‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Getting Another Big Screen Reboot

UPDATED (6/1/21):  Seth Rogen revealed that the release date for the reboot will be August 11, 2023.  For more details, see our original story below.

It's certainly not surprising to see a popular brand get a movie or TV reboot. At the same time, you would be hard pressed to find anything that has experienced more reboots than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Get ready "heroes in a half shell", you're getting another fresh start.

Deadline reports that Nickelodeon is getting another movie reboot from Nickelodeon. This time, Nick will team up with Seth Rogen's Point Grey Pictures for this latest incarnation. Paramount will still handle the global distribution of the movie. Evan Goldberg and James Weaver will produce, will Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Connected) direct and Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors: Sorority Rising, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates) will write the screenplay.

This movie will also ditch live action in favor of CG animation. Believe it or not, this will be the first CG animated feature from Nickelodeon Animation Studios. They launched the new CG animated series in 2012. You might also remember the CG feature TMNT from 2007, which was not done by Nickelodeon. If you're wondering, the 2D animated movie that was coming to Netflix is still happening.

There isn't any news on the story, cast or characters that will be involved. We also don't have a release date, but animated features are much more likely to go uninterrupted these days. I'll talk more about this on Episode 323 of the podcast this week.
