Do you ever listen to found footage podcasts? The horror and paranormal ones can make for some interesting listening. Now one of those podcasts has inspired a new series just announced by Netflix.
Archive 81 will be an eight episode supernatural horror series, loosely based on the popular podcast. The early description provided by Netflix tells us: “When archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie) takes a mysterious job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994, he finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) and her investigation into a dangerous cult. As Dan is drawn into Melody’s story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.”
The series will star the aforementioned Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion) and Dina Shihabi (Altered Carbon). Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys) will serve and showrunner and writer for the series along with Paul Harris Boardman who developed the original script. Rebecca Thomas will join as an executive producer, and will also direct half of the episodes. Podcast creators Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell will also co-produce. Last, but not least, James Wan’s Atomic Monster will also executive produce the series with James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett.
There is no word on a release date at this time. We will have more updates as they become available.
