‘Star Wars’ Docuseries ‘Light & Magic’ Coming In July

Let’s face it, May The Fourth Be With You would not be celebrated without the stunning visuals that Star Wars has given us over the years. Whether it be practical effects or special effects, those moments are forever embedded into our minds. We have gotten a look into that world before, but a new Disney+ series looks to go even deeper into the making of these moments.

As part of their Star Wars Day reveals, Disney+ and Lucasfilm announced a new docuseries, Light & Magic, to give viewers access that they have never seen before in the world of visual production for Lucasfilm.

Here is the official synopsis: “Granted unparalleled access, Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan takes viewers on an adventure behind the curtains of Industrial Light & Magic, the special visual effects, animation and virtual production division of Lucasfilm. Learn what inspired some of the most legendary filmmakers in Hollywood history, and follow their stories from their earliest personal films to bringing George Lucas’ vision to life. From Imagine Documentaries and Lucasfilm, and executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, the six-part documentary series premieres exclusively on Disney+ July 27.”

If you’re lucky enough to be going to the Star Wars Celebration at the end of the month in Anaheim, you’re in for an additional treat. On May 27th, attendees will get a sneak peak at the new docuseries. There will also be a panel discussion featuring discussion panel featuring Lawrence Kasdan and Ron Howard, joined by VFX titans Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett, Joe Johnston and Rose Duignan, and Lynwen Brennan, Lucasfilm executive vice president and general manager. Be sure to mark that on your schedule.

We don’t have a trailer yet, but check back at the end of the month. I’m sure that they will release one during the celebration. Of course, we’ll have a review of the series upcoming as well.
