‘Star Wars: Doctor Aphra’ Gets A Digital First Release For Star Wars Day

May The 4th Be With You is upon us, and you'll have plenty of ways to celebrate.  The entire Skywalker Saga is now available on Disney+.  You can also go behind the scenes of The Mandalorian on Disney+.  Now, Marvel Comics is joining in on the celebration and making an exception to a rule they have been practicing since the coronavirus pandemic shut down distribution of new comics.

Today, Marvel has released the first issue of Star Wars: Doctor Aphra digitally, several weeks before it's print release.  You might remember our story about Marvel's return to comic book shops last week.  Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1 will still be a part of that on May 27th.  This just feels like a small gesture to make today's Star Wars celebration a bit better.  This is especially true, given how Doctor Aphra has become a bit of a fan favorite for Star Wars comic readers.

In case you didn't know, this story takes place after the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.  The rest of the synopsis is as follows: "With the Rebel Alliance back on the run after their defeat at the Battle of Hoth, it’s never been a more dangerous time for outlaws, scoundrels and the errant rogue archaeologist to make their way in the galaxy. But after a string of bad luck and near escapes, Doctor Aphra has been keeping a low profile—jobs are scarce and credits scarcer. But the promise of the score of a lifetime is just too good for her to pass up."

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1 is written by Alyssa Wong, with art from Marika Cresta and the cover (seen above) by Valentina Remenar.
