The crew of the Enterprise is heading back to the big screen. The rest of what I’m about to tell you might be a bit surprising. First, Deadline reports that Noah Hawley (Marvel’s Legion) will direct the next Star Trek movie. Hawley will also write the script, and produce alongside JJ Abrams.
Here is the biggest shocker of all. The most recent Star Trek cast of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban are also reported to be returning. That goes against earlier reports that Chris Pine and others were done with the franchise. Did the addition of Hawley change that?
This really is a big get for Noah Hawley, who has mostly worked in TV until recently. He just made his directorial debut with Lucy In The Sky and now he will helm a major, big budget Star Trek movie. Not a bad second movie gig. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but based on his past work, this latest Trek could have a much more serious tone. For what it’s worth, Hawley also worked on Fargo and Bones, so we’re probably not talking Nolan serious here.
Paramount has yet to confirm the report, but keep checking back for updates.
