‘Settlers’ Trailer Explores The Frontier Of A Sci-Fi Style Western

UPDATED:  Listen to our thoughts on this trailer from Episode 373 of our podcast.  After that, you can watch the trailer blow.

So many seem like they are in a rush to go to space.  Billionaires have already talked about jumping in a rocket and heading to Mars on some sort of an intergalactic vacation.  I've seen other even say they wanted to settle down on the Red Planet.  Problem is, no one knows what to expect once you get there.  If there is an unexplored frontier, that is it.  In the trailer for the sci-fi thriller, Settlers from IFC Films, you might have some second thoughts about leaving Earth.

You might recognize some familiar faces in the trailer.  Before I talk about that, here's the official synopsis for Settlers:  "On a remote homestead amongst the Martian frontier, a refugee family from Earth clings to hope for a better life. But when strangers appear in the surrounding hills and attempt to run them off, nine-year-old Remmy (Brooklynn Prince, THE FLORIDA PROJECT) is faced with the desperate reality her mother (Sofia Boutella, THE MUMMY) and father (Jonny Lee Miller, TRAINSPOTTING) have tried so hard to keep from her."

You might remember, Brooklynn Prince was just on Episode 371 of our podcast to talk about the Apple TV+ series, Home Before Dark.  Just the trailer alone should show you her range as an actress at such a young age.  I've also seen enough Sofia Boutella movies to know not to mess with her.  So, whatever or whoever is out there, they had better watch out.  This really does feel like a bit of a western frontier type story with a sci-fi twist to it.  Difference is, you're not trying to keep someone else from parking their wagon on your plot in Oklahoma.  This is a completely different planet and far more questions to be answered.

Settlers is written and directed by Wyatt Rockefeller, marking his feature film debut.  The film also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova and Nell Tiger Free.  You can see the film in select theaters and on demand on July 23, 2021 from IFC Midnight.  This one definitely has my interest, so keep checking back for my review and more coverage.
