A familiar face will be part of a special Luke Perry Tribune for Season 4 of Riverdale. It was announced at the show’s Comic-Con panel on Sunday that the Season 4 premiere would feature a tribute to the late Perry, and the imprint that Fred Andrews had on the show. The title of the episode is also very appropriate, “Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam”.
The familiar face that I mentioned just happens to be Perry’s longtime co-star Shannen Doherty of Beverly Hills 90210. Doherty will guest star in what is only being described as a “special role”. Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that there was a plan in place for Doherty to guest star even before Perry’s passing. Aguirre-Sacasa said, “They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said ‘yes.’ It’s very impactful.”
It was also announced that Kerr Smith (The Fosters) would be joining the show in a recurring role as the new principal of Riverdale High. His first appearance will be on the second episode of the season.
Season 4 of Riverdale will premiere Wednesday, October 8th on The CW.
