With San Diego Comic-Con 2018 right around the corner, Boom! Studios continues to make a huge impact with their Road to Comic-Con announcements. The publisher has announced that famed Goosebumps creator R.L. Stein has signed a multi-year, original graphic novel deal with the publisher. The focus will be on middle grade titles, and will be released through the Boom's KaBoom! imprint. The first title is expected to be available in the Fall of 2019, and will be the first of four original graphic novels to be released in this first wave.
In the press release, VP of Editorial & Creative Strategy Bryce Carlson said, "As a lifelong fan of R.L. Stine, I couldn’t be more excited to see him scare a whole new generation with a series of original horror graphic novels at BOOM! Studios. His work changed my life as a reader and I can’t wait for today’s young readers to share that experience as R.L. Stine takes the graphic novel format and sends everyone just beyond the limits of their imaginations…” With the success of Goosebumps in the 90s, I'm sure that Boom! is hoping to have similar success with this generation of youth.
This is yet another in a list of major announcements that has been made by Boom! before the biggest week in comic books. The first came last week when it was announced that Firefly would be returning to comics with Greg Pak writing new stories, with Joss Whedon being involved as a creative consultant. That along with a new title called Sparrowhead and another installment of The Backstagers series, has the publisher making serious headlines before the big event. This is a strategy that has proven effective for them in the past, as they have made similar announcements ahead of SDCC the last couple of years. There are still more announcements yet to come this week. What would you like to see next? Keep up with the latest updates at boom-studios.com
