Peter Gadiot Joins ‘One Piece’ As Shanks

It looks like we finally have all hands on deck for the next Netflix manga adaptation.  It's not secret that a One Piece live action series is on the way, and we have been slowly getting information on the cast.  Well another key member has been added, and it's one that fans have been waiting for.  Peter Gadiot (Yellowjackets) has been added as Shanks.  Take a look at the announcement.

In case you missed it, here are some of the other members of the crew that will be joining the adventure:

  • Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D Luffy
  • Mackenyu as Rorona Zoro
  • Emily Rudd as Nami
  • Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
  • Taz Skylar as Sanji
  • Morgan Davies as Koby
  • Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida
  • Aidan Scott as Helmeppo
  • Jeff Ward as Buggy
  • McKinley Belcher III as Arlong
  • Vincent Regan as Garp

The series is based on the manga story by Eiichiro Oda.  It follows, "Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who has a body made of rubber, who sets off on a journey to find the One Piece, a mythical treasure that gives its holder the ability to declare themselves the Pirate King. In his journey, Luffy encounters many new friends, enemies, and a lot of adventure. Shanks is a legendary pirate who is the one who inspires Luffy to become a pirate in the first place and search out the One Piece. In the manga and anime, Shanks is often seen as a secondary protagonist alongside Luffy."

If you're a fan of the anime series already, I can understand being a bit hesitant about this one.  Anime adaptations can be hit and miss on the big or small screen.  This time, Netflix will handle the physical production and co-produce with Tomorrow Studios. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda will serve as executive producers and co-showrunners. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements serve as executive producers for Tomorrow Studios. As expected, Oda is listed as an executive producer as well.

Now that we have seen a wave of casting announcements, it might be a while before we get any more looks or updates.  Once those happen, you can find them here, so keep checking back.
