Music & Magic Fill The First Trailer For Disney’s ‘Encanto’

UPDATE:  Hear us share some thoughts about this first trailer on Episode 375 of our podcast.

When you think of Walt Disney, you have to think of magic and timeless music. We've seen that in so many animated classics throughout the years. This November, we get taken to Casa Madrigal for another magical journey. Here is the first trailer for Disney's Encanto.

As far as the story goes, in Encanto: "the magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope."

Stephanie Beatriz, who herself is Colombian, will be the voice of 15 year old Mirabel. Other members of the cast include María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan. For her part, Beatriz is very proud to be taking on this role.

"I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride," continues Beatriz. "As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all."

As for the song you hear in the trailer, there is some serious star power behind that as well. "Colombia, Mi Encanto,” is performed by 17-time GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY winner, singer, songwriter, actor and native Colombian Carlos Vives. The film will also feature original music from Lin Manuel Miranda. Byron Howard (“Zootopia,” “Tangled”) and Jared Bush (co-director “Zootopia”) serve as directors, co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are also the screenwriters on the film.

So get ready for the music to take you away once again. Encanto will be in theaters November 24, 2021 from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Keep checking back for more coverage.
