Everyone loves The Addams Family, but let’s be honest, Wednesday Addams has been a fan favorite for decades. From live action to animation, the character has inspired great cosplay and had fans quoting their favorite lines with each adaptation. Now Netflix is about to give us a look at the character that we may have never seen before.
Wednesday is an eight episode live action series that was just announced by the streamer. Tim Burton is set to direct, making his TV series directorial debut. Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) will serve as showrunners. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how big of a deal that is.
I’m sure you want to know what the series will be about, so here is the logline from Netflix: “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Nevermore being Nevermore Academy, so we’ll find out more about Wednesday’s school life in this young adult series. This will definitely be a coming of age story, and will apparently lean into some comedy as well. Personally, I can’t wait to find out who will play Wednesday and who else might be joining the cast.
Wednesday comes to Netflix from MGM/UA Television. Executive producers include a group of Addams vets with Andrew Mittman for 1.21 (The Addams Family, Alphas), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert (Code Black, Up All Night), Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania (RESPECT, Addams Family 2), and Gail Berman (The Addams Family, Alphas). Since my excitement for this is off the charts, be expecting more updates as soon as we get them.
