I know what you’re thinking, “Haven’t I seen this whole vampire hunter thing before?” Probably not like this you haven’t. Day Shift attempts to ditch your typical fang film dynamic for something fun and different. Geeked Week was the perfect opportunity for Netflix to take us behind the scenes.
Hunting them and making profit from their fangs is interesting. How are they used as a commodity? That’s just one of the many questions that I had when I saw this. We also see some great stunt and contortionist work, to take things to that next level. The most important takeaway for me is, it doesn’t look like this movie is trying to take itself too seriously. Nothing wrong with having fun in this genre.
Joining Foxx in the cast are Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Oliver Masucci, Snoop Dogg, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins and Zion Broadnax. JJ Perry will bring his years of stunt experience into the director’s chair. Tyler Tice and Shay Hatten handled the writing duties. It should make you even more confident that they have worked on the John Wick franchise, as well as Army of the Dead. That’s quite a trio.
The logline sheds a little bit more light on the story: “Jamie Foxx stars as a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.”
Rounding out the creative team are executive producers Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner and Peter Baxter. Shaun Redick, Yvette Yates Redick, Chad Stahelski and Jason Spitz also serve as producers.
You can sink your teeth into Day Shift on August 12th, exclusively on Netflix. Be sure to set your reminder here.
