I think that more fans should be keeping their eyes open to independent movies these days. There are some fun and creative projects out there that are very worthy of your time. Speaking of fun, I recently learned about Save Yourselves, about a young couple who went for an unplugged vacation day only to end up in the middle of an alien invasion. Check out the trailer and see what you think.
Looks fun, doesn’t it. Plus there is also some commentary there about social media obsession that is an interesting undercurrent. I also really like the lead characters Jack and Su (played by John Reynolds and Sunita Mani) just based on the trailer alone. No flashy effects, no unnecessarily confusing story, just character driven sci-fi fun.
Here is the synopsis: “Jack (John Reynolds) and Su (Sunita Mani) are a hip Brooklyn couple who, like many of their friends, find themselves dependent on technology and unable to put down their phones. Fearing their mindless scrolling may impact their connection with each other, they seize the chance to head to an isolated cabin in the woods, vowing to unplug from the outside world for a week. Sheltered from texts and push notifications, they are blissfully unaware that the planet is under attack. As strange events unfold, the couple must figure out a way back to civilization—or what’s left of it.”
Save Yourselves is written and directed by Alex H. Fischer & Eleanor Wilson. You will have a chance to see it in theaters on October 2nd before it heads to Amazon Prime Video on October 6th from Bleecker Street.
