We don’t talk about a lot of horror on the Down And Nerdy Podcast, or here on the website. Just like a lot of other fans, the addition of Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky has my attention. When Orion Pictures made that announcement, you felt like a first look would soon follow. Now we have it!
Not to sound all runway fashion show M/C but here we see Chucky in his trademark attire, but sporting a bit more of a contemporary look. The biggest difference is the name Buddi. Remember, in Mark Hamill’s video he said, “he’s not just your buddy, he’s your best friend.” I guess I should say Buddi now. The hair still looks red, but the shading is pretty dark, so it’s hard to tell for sure.
All in all, it’s not much of a departure from the classic look, and certainly not anything drastic. It might be the most contemporary the character has ever looked, which might lead to diehard fans disagreeing with me. The biggest change is the name, and with this being a reboot, will likely lead to a new origin story. The question is, are you ok with that?
CHILD’S PLAY follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature. The movie will be directed by Lars Klevberg for Orion Pictures and KatzSmith Productions. This reboot hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
What do you think of Chucky’s new look?
