Things are starting to heat up for The She-Devil Of The Hyrkanian Steppes. Back in September, we got news from The Hollywood Reporter that the Red Sonja movie was back on track with Bryan Singer at the helm. It is no surprise to find out today that the character will get a fresh start in the comics as well.
Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Mark Russell (The Flintstones, Judge Dredd: Under Siege) will write the new ongoing series, along with artist Mirko Colak (Conan). The first issue will be released in February of 2019. A number of big name artists have also been tapped for variant covers. Amanda Connor will be on the main cover, with variants by Frank Cho, Joseph Michael Linsner, Christian Ward and even a cosplay variant.
According to the press release, Russell and Colak bring forth the tale of Tomyris, a world conqueror possessing a massive army and a fatal prophecy. A bastard sorceress craves revenge. And a fearsome red-haired warrior is made wartime ruler of a homeland set for decimation. No man knows the place of her birth, nor where she learned to wield a sword to shame many a male. They know only that she is called The She-Devil Of The Hyrkanian Steppes. That, and RED SONJA.
Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment, also said in the release that Red Sonja is a "cornerstone character for our publishing line" in the same release. Are you excited for a new direction for Red Sonja? Let us know!
