March 5th is a very important date in the history of the Down And Nerdy Podcast. That was the date that the very first episode was recorded. I can still remember talking about Spider-Man and comics that were in cereal boxes. That was eight years ago, believe it or not. The show has come a long way since then and has evolved into something that has surpassed my wildest dreams. One of the reasons for that is how the show has evolved over the years.
You might have noticed lately that said evolution has led to some changes on the show. I noticed more and more that comics themselves were becoming less and less a part of the Down And Nerdy Podcast. Honestly, without comics, the show never would have gotten to this point. So, I started thinking about how I could bring that back, without adding extra time to the show. That's when it hit me, it's time to expand. Seeing that anniversary date on the calendar made it feel like the perfect time to make that move.
The first brand new show being added to the lineup will be called, It's Comics, Man! The name comes from an interview with writer and editor Tom Waltz from years ago. This was back when he was working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the had just killed off Shredder. When I asked him if Shredder would stay dead, his response was, "It's comics, man!" To this day I have never forgotten that, and remember it vividly. So I thought, what better way to resurrect our comics coverage than with that title. This new, 30ish minute podcast will bring back comic book reviews, comic book news and strong opinions on the past, present and future of the comic book industry. You might even hear a few interview clips here and there, but full interviews will remain on the Down And Nerdy Podcast for now. Honestly, it will be fun to start talking more about comics again.
But, why stop there? You might have seen a tease or two over the last year about another new show that may or may not have been coming. Well, it's taken a while to get going, but now seems like a good time. Mission: Collect will be a show that is all about collectibles. Figures, statues and other fun stuff that we all love to use to put our fandom on display. Since collectibles are more visual, this will be a video show. No set times or release dates, just frequent content. That means unboxing videos, maybe some store walkthroughs, a look back at some nostalgic pieces and maybe even a few tips here and there. My early love of action figures played a big role in my passion for nerd culture, so this is a show that I've wanted to do for a long time.
So, when is this all happening and where can you find it? The first episode of It's Comics, Man! will be available on April 6, 2022. I feel like Wednesday is the best day to release these shows, since it is New Comic Book Day. Each episode will release weekly after that. The launch of Mission: Collect will follow on Tuesday, April 12th. You can expect new videos to start flowing after that. It could be one a week, could be five, it will all depend on content and availability.
While these channels are being put together, you can start by following both shows on social media to get started. There will be pages on this website for both shows, as well. That is where you will find links for where to subscribe when the time is right. Thank you so much for all of your support over the years.
