When I was really starting to get back into reading comics more, one of the newer books I started with was Batman/Superman. Greg Pak’s incredible grasp of these characters paired with the beautiful work of Jae Lee put that book at the top of my reading pile every week. Even when the creative teams changed, I stayed locked in until the book came to an untimely end. Today, DC is giving me a chance to fall in love all over again.
This August, a new Batman/Superman book begins! This will apparently be spun off from the pages of Dark Nights: Metal and The Batman Who Laughs. This also means that The Batman Who Laughs will be given a seventh issue, which I am more than fine with. According to a press release from DC, the first arc of BATMAN/SUPERMAN will follow the two titular heroes as they hunt down six infected heroes in the DCU—people revealed to be infected by the Batman Who Laughs with a deadly pathogen that violently transforms them into the evilest versions of themselves. The Dark Knight and the Man of Steel must journey into the depths of Gotham City to learn which of their fellow heroes has been transformed into the horrifying horseman of their most dangerous and deranged foe ever.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report that artist David Marquez (Avengers, Civil War II) would be joining DC for the upcoming story, along with writer Joshua Williamson (The Flash). They will also be joined by colorist Dave Stewart, with Alejandro Sánchez assisting on covers and a variant cover by Leinil Yu.
Batman/Superman #1 comes to you local comic book shops and digital retailers on August 14th. The special bonus issue of The Batman Who Laughs #1, featuring the final showdown of Batman and his Jokerized self, from Scott Snyder and Jock will be available on July 31st. I’m sure we will find out even more at SDCC this year!
