If you're an Archie Comics fan, it's been a tough couple of weeks adaptation wise. Another blow was just dealt with the news that Netflix has canceled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. TVLine was first to report the news, with the final eight episodes of the series set to air later this year.
This news comes after Katy Keene was dealt the same fate by The CW. In this particular instance, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was able to get a second season. Technically, the show was broken up into parts over it's lifespan. So the series will end with Part 4 in which, "The coven must fight each terrifying threat one-by-one (The Weird, The Returned, The Darkness to name a few), all leading up to…The Void, which is the End of All Things. As the witches wage war, with the help of The Fright Club, Nick begins to slowly earn his way back into Sabrina’s heart, but will it be too late?" The synopsis was provided by Netflix.
Speaking with TVLine, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said, "Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from Day One,” he said. “The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four."
Efforts will likely be made to save the series, but normally when Netflix cancels something, it sticks. I guess it will all depend on the longevity of the current social media outrage. Keep checking back for updates on a release date and any trailers.
