Neo or not, The Matrix 4 is happening, and with a new leading man. Variety reports that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming yet-to-be-titled sequel. You’ll remember him battling Jason Momoa in Aquaman, and also from The Get Down on Netflix.
Abdul-Mateen II will join returning stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss, who will reprise their roles. I said “Neo or not”, because it appears that he will not be the lead for this next chapter. Does this mean Reeves will play more of the mentor role this time around? Lana Wachowski is also on board to direct and made the selection of the new leading man.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will next be seen in HBO’s Watchmen series. The Matrix 4 is set to begin production sometime early next year.
